Pen_Nomad Travels East Asia: February 2011 (New Zealand)

See youtube: (pen69nomad) : February 2011.
Well... I have now passed the furthest point South away from UK, so technically I am now on my way Home.... LOL...
Dunedin,(ok),  Very Scottish feel, possibly due to the bagpipers playing to the tourist buses by the old railway station.... :-). Moving North I arrived at Moeraki Boulders,(Awesome), huge stone & Quartz spheres deposited on the beach like leftovers from a game of Giant's marbles....???? Stayed at the Swiss campsite, (2km North), and spent the next day by Moeraki lighthouse watching Yellow Eyed Penguins and NZ fur seals,(from 2 mtr away), in their natural environment.. Got some good photos....
Drove North past Rangitata,(small), and parked by the river. Except for a few days in Queenstown, It had been fairly hot & sunny all the way around South Island but 6/2/11 was COOKING... 42 deg/C.. record.. Bit too hot, even for me so stayed parked up and reading my e-book for a few days till it cooled down a bit.. LOL.
Ashburton was ok and then into CHRISTCHURCH, (as it was), seemed a great vibrant city. Visited the Cathedral and town center areas, (that were Flattened by the Earthquake a week later!!!). Moved on North to Kaikora,(Nice town), and parked up on the beach with a lovely sunrise sea view.  :-) ,,, saw more penguins & baby seals at the seal breeding colony and collected the shiny blue Pau shells off the beach. :-) . Further North, through  Blenheim,(V. Nice), and finally returning to Picton to catch the car ferry back to North Island.
A short wander around Wellington, which is quite a nice place as major cities go, then out to the Hutt Valley, (to get a pitza from Jabba), to tidy the van ready for the 6 monthly MOT/WOF test.
Had a Fine birthday... LOL... van passed it's test, grand Chinese buffet for $6, drove out to Battle Hill campsite which was empty,(glad), big curry for tea then got stoned,(legally,,LOL,,), by a campfire and watched for shooting stars till Late.... <3
North on SH4 up to Waitomo Glow-worm Caves which were very touristic & expensive, so went around the area, (the benefits of a camper van), and found some great caves with G.Worms, waterfalls and a few other beautiful places. Parked overnight by a Natural stone bridge and went for a night-walk and was Stunned to see Squillions of Glow-worm lighting up the underside of the bridge and surrounding tracks. :-) . Finally drove North to Auckland and to Denise's, finished last bit of painting on van then down to Auckland to put it on sale. 2 days later van sold for full asking price $2800 :-) ... Staying up at Denise's for the last couple of days till 22/03/2011 when I leave New Zealand.
